Raise Your Hand If You're Sick of Dan Choi
Full article and screen shot of Choi's Twitter feed here: http://www.broadwaycarl.com/2011/06/raise-your-hand-if-...

p.s. There is enough 'real' stuff for Choi to be talking about, but his making up and tweeting out of of false Obama quotes goes over the line (example: the third tweet with the Obama quote is completely false). Seems like Choi is trying to diminish his credibility.

1. Happily unreccing - now I'm off to celebrate a hard fought victory for marriage equality
that happened on the eve of Pride weekend. That drives some mad.

3. Why is Choi's twitter feed a concern? There are blogs about it? Are you concerned that
Choi may be diminishing his credibility in some way?

5. So now it's OK to make up shit about Obama out of thin air 'cause Choi didi it?
What's that about "blind followers"? Not a good idea to cast one's lot behind someone going over a ledge.

:eyes:

At least I see now who got the "Cuomo should primary Obama" idea going.

7. Being intentionally obtuse is naff
Being unable to distinguish between satire and an actual quote is either an educational deficiency or a symptom of a larger problem.

12. Bullcrap. DUers say stuff like that here daily in all seriousness.
Don't try to pass it off as a joke.

Hey, if Choi's supposed to be a standard-bearer or representative voice for LGBT rights, then godspeed.

Don't worry about my sense of humor; it's in fine form, as it needs to be around here sometimes. :hi:

Apparently there really is no depth that is too low.

29. Choi was stating his idea of how Obama thinks, nothing more.
I could tell it was satirical and quickly realised the OP was dishonest and misleading.

The way he absolutely flipped out on stage at NN signaled to me that he was too far gone. It's becoming more and more obvious that Choi has sacrificed the truth, the cause, and common dignity at the alter of his petty bitterness.

22. I love the hypocrisy of someone who can type this in regards to Cuomo
Cuomo's "confidence and strength?" Cuomo signing off on New York's legislation is a no brainer. Show me a bipartisan Congress willing to pass a bill repealing DOMA and I'll show you a President Obama signing the goddamn thing before the ink is dry.

who then links to this list in regards to Obama

Signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which expanded existing United States federal hate crime law to include crimes motivated by a victims actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability the first positive federal LGBT legislation in the nations history

Signed repeal of Dont Ask/Dont Tell

Signed the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act

end of quote

Now which is it? Is signing such bills a big deal or is it not?

On top of the hypocrisy is the lying. Cuomo is universally credited with having made marriage equality a priority and arm twisting personally arm twisting legislators to make it happen. To call that merely signing legislation is rank dishonesty. And to top of his lies. His first accomplishment for Obama has a lie in it too. The first pro gay legislation which passed, actually passed under Bush, it was a pension reform bill which permitted gays to name partners on their pensions. So why should I trust this blogger again?

26. You don't have to believe him, you can go to Choi's tweeter page and see for yourself
Edited on Sun Jun-26-11 10:42 PM by Tx4obama
the false Obama quote that Choi tweeted.

There is absolutely no evidence at all that Choi was being sarcastic - or 'telling a joke' as some folks have called it.

He composed a 'quote' in quotation marks attached to Obama's name.

That was a dishonest action and there's no way getting around it.

28. Someone on this board said that Choi was becoming the new Cindy Sheehan.
And truth be told, as a gay man I agree. He is completely off base and believes things that one must believe with the fierceness of someone who knows its not true.
